We are begin­ning the Holy Jubi­lee Year in our Arch­dio­ce­se. The Metro­po­li­tan Arch­bi­shop of Kra­kow, Arch­bi­shop Marek Jędra­szew­ski, has desi­gna­ted our Basi­li­ca as the pla­ce and desti­na­tion of a pio­us pil­gri­ma­ge or visi­ta­tion for the faith­ful of the Arch­dio­ce­se of Kra­kow. By visi­ting our shri­ne as well as 16 other shri­nes, we can obta­in the Jubi­lee Indulgence.

The Jubi­lee in the Uni­ver­sal Church began on 24 Decem­ber 2024 with the ope­ning of the Holy Door in St Pete­r’s Basi­li­ca in the Vati­can by Pope Fran­cis. In the dio­ce­ses, howe­ver, it was cele­bra­ted on Holy Fami­ly Sun­day, 29 Decem­ber. The outward sign of the Jubi­lee being lived is the Nowa Huta Cross, which was car­ried in solemn pro­ces­sion from the Church of St Peter and St Paul to Wawel Cathedral .

The Jubi­lee Year, cele­bra­ted in the Catho­lic Church eve­ry 25 years, is a time of spi­ri­tu­al rebirth and recon­ci­lia­tion. The the­mes of the Jubi­lee — hope and pil­gri­ma­ge — enco­ura­ge the faith­ful to disco­ver the joy of the enco­un­ter with Christ. ‘With Jesus, hope does not disap­po­int and our lives can be full of meaning, even in the dar­kest moments,’ — Pope Fran­cis said at the ope­ning of the Holy Door.

The cele­bra­tion of the Holy Year in the Arch­dio­ce­se of Kra­kow will last until 28 Decem­ber 2026.
