We are beginning the Holy Jubilee Year in our Archdiocese. The Metropolitan Archbishop of Krakow, Archbishop Marek Jędraszewski, has designated our Basilica as the place and destination of a pious pilgrimage or visitation for the faithful of the Archdiocese of Krakow. By visiting our shrine as well as 16 other shrines, we can obtain the Jubilee Indulgence.
The Jubilee in the Universal Church began on 24 December 2024 with the opening of the Holy Door in St Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican by Pope Francis. In the dioceses, however, it was celebrated on Holy Family Sunday, 29 December. The outward sign of the Jubilee being lived is the Nowa Huta Cross, which was carried in solemn procession from the Church of St Peter and St Paul to Wawel Cathedral .
The Jubilee Year, celebrated in the Catholic Church every 25 years, is a time of spiritual rebirth and reconciliation. The themes of the Jubilee — hope and pilgrimage — encourage the faithful to discover the joy of the encounter with Christ. ‘With Jesus, hope does not disappoint and our lives can be full of meaning, even in the darkest moments,’ — Pope Francis said at the opening of the Holy Door.
The celebration of the Holy Year in the Archdiocese of Krakow will last until 28 December 2026.
Conditions for obtaining an indulgence, as well as content that can help you better live the Jubilee Year, are available on the official website of the diocesan celebrations.
